New Jersey School Climate Survey

New Jersey School Climate Survey

New Jersey Department of Education School Climate Survey | 2012 – 2018

The BCSR developed, in collaboration with the NJDOE, the 2012 New Jersey School Climate Survey. This included assisting in the creation of all instructional materials and questionnaires for four survey populations- elementary school students, middle and high school students, parents, and school staff.  The BCSR was responsible for creating a questionnaire that measured various dimensions of school climate for each of the four survey populations and creating a survey administration guide so that school districts could administer the survey on their own. The BCSR also created scaling algorithms for each survey population and a data entry and display template in Excel that districts used to show survey results. In 2014, after the NJDOE conducted a pilot test with selected districts across the state, the BCSR conducted a reliability and validity study in and used the results to improve upon the 2012 survey instruments and provided updated materials for download on the NJDOE website. The BCSR was once again asked in 2016 to revise the survey instruments, provide updated materials for dissemination and conduct new data analytics.
